Stainless Steel Cookware

Stainless Steel Cookware

There are many uses for stainless steel cookware. Before there was stainless steel, many kitchen items were made from copper or iron, and sometimes aluminum. This meant that either they were very expensive, or that they were heavy and rusted easily. When stainless steel was invented, it opened up a whole new world for cookware. Now nearly all high quality cookware is made from stainless steel. Stainless steel has really revolutionized the baking and cooking world.

Many stainless steel cookware are either mixed with aluminum insides, to make the cookware lighter and absorb heat faster, or with copper to help even out the cooking surface. When cooking on a gas range, an aluminum and stainless steel combination is great for allowing the heat to hit the sides of the pan as well as the bottom. For cooking on electric stoves, however, it is best to use a pan or pot with a copper bottom, because electric stoves tend to burn food quicker and easier than gas ranges. The copper bottom helps absorb and disperse the cooking heat, making it a great choice for electric stoves and most home cooking.

Shopping for stainless steel cookware does not have to be hard. Just look for the best quality in your price range. The most expensive cookware brands are usually among the best, but not good enough to really be worth the extra price. Probably the best cookware to purchase is the mid range level because it is both durable and inexpensive enough for nearly everyone. A general rule to follow is that the thicker the bottom of the pan, the better quality. Teflon pans have their own rules, because they are not meant to last anyway.

There are a lot of different baking tools that are stainless steel. Some of these are: frypans, bakeware, saucepan, and many others. It is easy to care for your stainless steel kitchen tools. Most pots and pans can be washed in the dishwasher. For deep cleaning, use a stainless steel powder cleaner. Just be sure not to use bleach or steel wool on the stainless steel. These can ruin the finish. Overheating is also bad for the pots, so make sure not to heat past the recommended temperature settings.
